Escort MK1 Bodyshell
Original May 1968 2 door shell, fully restored, seam welded and full Group 4 modifications by Gartrac to Historic specifications including double front bulkhead, reinforced chassis crossmember mounts, fully seam welded, lowered radiator housing, reinforced and skidded chassis rails, reinforced seat mounts, reinforced jacking points, enlarged gearbox and diff tunnel, reinforced rear spring mounts, rear suspension turrets etc, etc. Firewall front and rear. FIA Historic 6 point bolt in roll cage with 6 additional chassis mounts, lateral brace and under dash brace with FIA certificate of compliance. Steel front and rear wide arches with front inner arches recessed for 15” wheels. Gartrac World Cup crossmember. Steel doors, fibreglass boot and bonnet by Smith and Deakin. Welded front strut brace mountings. Works pattern fully braced sumpguard. OMP seats and 6 point 3” lightweight harnesses. Twin zone heated laminated front screen, FIA compliant polycarbonate side and rear windows with door window sliders. All bodyshell work carried out by Gartrac, with no expense spared. Engine bay lined with double layer heat shield. Alloy oil catch tank under o/s/f wing. Towing points front and rear. Driver’s alloy footrest.
Ford Escort MK1Suspension
Front: Gartrac tarmac struts, 190 x 11.75 Group 4 springs 4.25” diameter, Bilstein 260/60 inserts, spherical bearing top mounts, adjustable spherical jointed TCAs, heavy duty anti roll bar and rose jointed drop links. Group 4 large bearing alloy hubs with extra long group 4 studs.
Rear: Decambered 143lb single leaf slipper springs, Bilstein group 4 220/110 spherical bearing turreted shocks, fully floating Atlas axle built by Gartrac with 5 adjustable rose jointed short links, ZF limited slip differential with 5.1 CWP, axle brace and steel diff shield. Alloy hubs with extra long group 4 studs.
Gartrac bronze bushed quick rack, with Gartrac heavy duty tarmac steering arms. Standard long shaft steering column, with dished leather rim steering wheel.
Ford Escort Cosworth Engine
Ford Cosworth BDE 1800cc, ex formula 2 AX block 86mm bore, JE Racing forged pistons, Cosworth narrow journal rods, new DK Engineering lightweight steel crankshaft 77.6 mm stroke, new ultra lightweight steel flywheel, all fully balanced, short steel Cosworth jackshaft, Cosworth pulleys, large valve Formula 2 cylinder head, fully ported, 1.320” inlet and 1.145” exhaust valves and springs by Cosworth, 11.6 Compression Ratio, L1 inlet, DA10 exhaust camshafts, new 45 DCOE Weber carburettors with Wilcox works pattern twin cable linkage. Dry sumped with new 5 port oil pump and oil cooler, mechanical tacho drive, new Lucas 43D distributor and Lucas CD ignition unit, with Omex rev limiter and gear change light. Boot mounted Gartrac dry sump oil tank with catch tank, all pipes in Aeroquip with Aeroquip alloy fittings. Tony Law large bore exhaust manifold with 2.5” custom 2 box exhaust system with repackable central silencer. Brise concentric heavy duty geared starter motor, 80 amp lightweight alternator with heat shield. Engine built from almost all new parts and run in and set up on dyno by Connaught Competition Engines. 233BHP @8000rpm, 165lbsft torque @6000rpm. (Dyno sheet available).
Tilton lightweight twin plate paddle clutch, 1” 23 spline input shaft, hydraulic release with AP thrust bearing, quick release bellhousing, ZF S5/18-3 5 speed straight cut gearbox with direct top and all new internals and alloy skid with heavy duty gearbox mounting. Single piece balanced propshaft.
Ford Escort Brakes
All new Gartrac bias adjustable pedal box with twin AP Racing master cylinders and remote reservoirs.
Front: AP Racing Tarmac Spec CP2271 Monte Carlo 4 pot calipers, AP Racing CP4448 260 x 25 ventilated discs, Ferodo FRP218H pads.
Rear: AP Racing CP2577 2 pot calipers, CP 2407 discs, Ferodo FCP825H pads.
Handbrake: Separate hydraulic AP Racing 2 pot CP2577/H calipers, FCP825H pads and optional custom cable operated handbrake. All hydraulic lines and fittings in dash 3 Aeroquip.
Custom loom and control box, all systems activated by relays and protected by circuit breakers or fuses.
Varley Red Top 40 gel battery in GRP container in the boot. Auxiliary Anderson power plug. FIA cut off switch. Twin air horns.
Works pattern dash with new mechanical Smiths tachometer and speedometer and all gauges and warning lights as original works cars. Lighting: Hella twin reflector headlamps, Cibie Super Oscar and Oscar auxiliary lamps on works pattern brackets, all with 100 watt halogen bulbs.
Premier Fuel Systems 80 litre FIA bag tank in alloy enclosure with compliance certificate, twin Facet red top fuel pumps, high flow pressure regulator and filter, Aston type fuel filler cap with spill/overflow funnel. Anti syphon vent/rollover valve. FIA dry break fuel sampling point.
