Monaco Grand Prix 2014 Round Up29th May 14
Another Mercedes 1,2! But at least there’s two of them.
After the last few monopolised ‘Vettel’ seasons it seems a nice change to have a couple of different winners – just a couple mind. With Brit driver Lewis Hamilton leading the 2014 season by 1 point before round 6 in Monaco, teammate Nico Rosberg is the only other driver on the field to have won a race this year.
Heading to the Rosberg favoured track, the German managed a rather… controversial pole position after putting Hamilton off his last fast lap during qualifying. Taking full advantage from the front of the grid Rosberg managed to hold Hamilton off for the 78 lap long street circuit.
Taking a well deserved 3rd place was Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo who managed to bring some good news to the team after Sebastian Vettel retired on lap 6 due to gearbox problems.
Ferrari had mixed results. After a good start for Raikkonen to place himself in 3rd, a puncture and an encounter with Magnusen the Fin could only manage 12th whilst teammate Fernando Alonso managed a respectable 4th.
Following the Ferrari was Force India’s Hulkenberg, McLaren’s Button, Williams’ Massa and Lotus’ Grosjean leaving Alonso to claim the best of the rest’s third position in the championship, 57 points behind Hamilton.
Next up is Canada where Hamilton has had the most success out of the current field of drivers, but let’s hope its not a runaway victory – having a battle for first place is something I’ve missed!
